Bulgaria currently ranks third in the world in terms of Internet speed and some 59% of the Bulgarians aged between 15 and 69 use the Internet, Veni Markovski, chairman of the management board of the non-governmental organisation Internet Society (ISOC) Bulgaria said, as quoted by FOCUS News Agency. Markovski commented that EU's estimates for low internet usage in the country are wrong. These estimates are the occasion for EC Vice President and Commissioner for Digital Technologies, Neelie Kroes, to visit Bulgaria, the agency noted. Although a large part of the population does not have access to Internet at present, Bulgaria has the potential to become the EU state with the fastest broadband, Commissioner Kroes said. The country does not have as wide-spread broadband coverage as other EU members, which is a good opportunity for the country to go ahead of other EU states in terms of implementation of new and advanced technologies and upgrade.
