Slovenias court approves arbitration agreement with Croatia.

By bne IntelliNews March 24, 2010
The Slovenian constitutional said that the arbitration agreement with Croatia complies with the countrys constitution and thus the bilateral agreement on the border dispute, which hindered Croatia s EU negotiations, can be signed. We note that the deal on the border issue, which was signed in November by PM Jadranka Kosor and her Slovene counterpart PM Borut Pahor, allowed international arbitration on the border issue. However, the opposition parties in Slovenia disagreed with the reached deal and PM Pahor asked the constitutional court to rule. After the approval by the constitutional court the ruling parties in Slovenia stated that there was no reason to hold a referendum on the arbitration agreement and stated that the procedure for the ratification of the document in the national parliament could start.
