Slovenia's volume turnover in retail trade went up 0.5% m/m and 4.8% y/y in June, the Slovenian Statistical Office announced on July 31.

After in 2017 retail trade recorded growth of 8.2%, it will likely maintain the upward trend that began in 2015 mainly thanks to higher employment and salaries.

According to the statistical office, the increase in June against May was due to higher turnover in specialised stores with motor fuels (by 4.1%), as turnover in retail trade except automotive fuel decreased (by 0.2%). The fall in turnover in retail trade except automotive fuel was due to lower sales of food, which fell by 0.7% compared to May.

Meanwhile, in June against June 2017, the largest increase was recorded also in specialised stores with motor fuels (by 18.3%). Turnover also increased in retail trade with non-food (by 5.0%), while in retail trade with food it decreased (by 5.6%), statistical office reported.

In the first half of this year, volume turnover in retail trade increased by 1.2% over the same period of the previous year. In this period the sale of automotive fuel increased by 4.6%, while the sale in retail trade except automotive fuel decreased by 0.3%. In the same comparison the sale of food was down by 4.9% and the sale of non-food up by 4.1%, the statistical office announced on July 30.
