Slovakias September new car sales jump 46.6% y/y.

Sales of new passenger cars in Slovakia jumped by 46.6% y/y in September 2012 to 7,329, following a 14.6% annual growth in the previous month, data from the Slovak Automotive Industry Association (ZAP) showed. The reason for the sharp growth in new passenger cars last month is the new, higher registration fee for new cars, introduced as of October 1, ZAP said. For the first nine months of the year, sales of new cars were 7.8% higher y/y at 53,845 units. Skoda kept its leading position in the passenger car segment with a market share of 22.34%, followed by Germanys Volkswagen with a share of 9.05% and South Koreas Kia with a share of 7.97%. Sales of new light commercial vehicles grew 9.52% on the year to 483 units in Sept 2012. Sales of trucks weighing 3.5 tonnes to 12 tonnes for the Jan-Sept period increased 3.7% on the year to 390 units, while sales of heavy trucks above 12 tonnes dropped 3.5% to 2,285 units. Fiat topped the light commercial vehicles segment with a 23.41% market share, Iveco dominated the light trucks segment with a 47.18% market share and Volvo led with a 28.93% market share in the heavy trucks segment. A total of 189 new buses were sold in the country in the first nine months of 2012, up 6.8% from a year earlier.
