Slovakias gross external debt grew by 0.6% m/m in September 2012 to USD 67.1bn, following the same pace of growth as in the previous month, preliminary central bank data showed. The increase came as a 1.3% monthly growth in the external debt of the government and a 5.3% rise in the debt of the non-financial sector offset a 7.2% decline in the debt of the central bank and a 1.1% fall in the debt of commercial banks. On an annual basis, the countrys gross foreign debt fell by 6.5% as of end-September, driven down by a 42.4% drop in the external debt of the central bank and by a 40.3% decline in the debt of commercial banks, while the governments debt widened by 42.6%.
