By bne IntelliNews February 23, 2011
The transport ministry has proposed the Bratislava Airport to be leased for a period of 30 to 50 years, Pravda.sk reported. Initially the ministry was planning to rent the countrys busiest state-owned airport for 20 to 30 years, but prolonged the period at the request of the finance ministry. The tender for selecting an operator of the airport will be launched in mid-2012. The airport needs about EUR 350mn in investment in 10 years to remain competitive, according to estimates of the transport ministry. The ministry also plans to transfer regional airports in Poprad - Tatry, Zilina and Sliac to the regional self-governments by the end of 2016. Preparation works for the handover are scheduled to start this year.
