Slovakia's online advertising spending up 22.4% in Q2 2011.

Companies in Slovakia spent EUR 11.9mn on online advertising in the second quarter of 2011, or 22.4% more than a year earlier, data released by the Association of Internet Media showed. In the first half of the year, online advertising in the country surged by 24% y/y. Banner ads dominated the market with a 46% share of all sales, or EUR 5.46mn. Spending on contextual advertisement stood at EUR 3.4mn while classified ads occupied the third place with EUR 1.9mn. Email advertising was the only segment that registered a drop by 34% y/y to EUR 160,000. Telecommunications companies were the biggest advertisers accounting for 21.7% of all spending. Financial companies followed with a share of 17.1% and the automotive industry came third with a 13.3% share.
