Slovakia's industry sales rose by 10.7% y/y to EUR 6.3bn in April 2011, slowing down from a revised 14.5% annual growth in the previous month, the statistics office reported. The slow-down could be largely attributed to the base effect from 2010, when the country started to recover from the crisis. Manufacturing sales, accounting for 82.4% of all sales, jumped by 11.2% y/y mainly on the back of a 23.6% y/y rise in the sales of transport equipment, which have a 26% share in manufacturing sales. The other main sectors in terms of turnover were basic metals that collapsed by 5.62% y/y and rubber and plastic products that increased by 12.9% y/y. Sales of computer products posted its first growth this year, climbing by 7.4% y/y. Food production sales accelerated further to 15.4% y/y after a 6.1% y/y rise in the previous month. On the other hand, coke manufacturing fell by 2.6% y/y in April after a 1.4% y/y drop in March. Sales in the electricity supply sector grew by 8.6% y/y, but the water supply sector faced a 3.8% y/y drop. Mining was up by 5.13% y/y.
