Slovakia's first-half insurance premiums up by 2.9% y/y.

Insurance companies in Slovakia reported technical written premiums of EUR 1.08bn in the first half of 2011, up by 2.9% y/y, SITA news agency reported citing data from the Slovak Insurance Association (SLASPO). The non-life insurance segment grew by 3% y/y to EUR 521.3mn and the life insurance segment went up by 2% y/y to EUR 558.6mn. Allianz Slovenska Poistovna was the market leader with written premiums amounting to EUR 317mn, inching down by 0.7% y/y. The second position was occupied by Kooperativa, a member of Vienna Insurance Group (VIG), with EUR 251.1mn in written premiums, or 1% higher on the year. VIG, which operates in Slovakia through Kooperativa, Komunalna Poistovna and Poistovna Slovenskej Sporitelne, managed premiums of EUR 347.9mn, increasing by 3.8% y/y. The third largest insurance company in the country in terms of written premiums was Generali Slovensko with EUR 99.9mn, up by 1.3% y/y.
