Russian president Vladimir Putin will pay visit to Kazakhstan on May 25, when 20th anniversary of the basic Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation between Russia and Kazakhstan will be observed, this was announced during informal meeting of CIS presidents in Moscow. The coming visit indicates a growing significance of Kazakhstan for Russia. It seems that Moscow wants to re-integrate CIS countries economically in cooperation with Astana. Kazakhstan has also potential to compete with Russia on world oil markets and closer economic cooperation will give Russia more measures to observe or to some extent control Kazakhstans policy in this sphere.
