Russia not to sue Ukraine for lowering gas imports in 2012.

The Russian Gazprom is not going to sue Ukraine for lowering gas imports in 2012 to 27bn m3, believes the Energy and Coal Industry Minister Yurii Boiko. Boiko said Ukraine would expand Russian gas imports if the gas price becomes lower. The gas contracts of 2009 oblige Ukraine to buy at least 33.3bn cubic meters of gas annually. In 2011 Ukraine imported close to 40bn cubic meters of Russian gas. Moreover, Ukraine is set to continue to reduce purchases of Russian gas in 2013 if it does not become cheaper. In addition, Ukraine has invited a tender to select an appraiser of its gas transportation system. After estimations are over, Ukraine will send specific proposals on participation in the gas transportation consortium, minister has announced.
