Romanian opposition coalition USL will support the country's participation in the European fiscal pact, the head of the largest opposition party (PSD, leftist), Victor Ponta, was quoted as saying by news agency Mediafax. The opposition MPs, currently boycotting the parliamentary, will temporarily return to the legislative body to ratify the necessary documents on the issue, Ponta said. There is no need for a protocol about this, he added. Ponta also urged for broader public debate on the effects of the fiscal consolidation stipulated by the pact. He stressed that PM Mihai Razvan Ungureanu should sign the document on behalf of Romania, and not President Traian Basescu. We recall that the ruling parties have signed a protocol on the ratification of the documents related to the EU fiscal pact. The ruling coalition also invited the opposition parties to sign the protocol.
