By bne IntelliNews July 19, 2011
Romanias second largest cable operator UPC, controlled by the Swiss-registered Liberty Global, denied in a public statement plans to merge with the market leader RCS&RDS, Ziarul Financiar daily reported. The daily mentioned for the first time back in end-February that RCS&RDS was close to taking over its rival UPC. Earlier last week, the antitrust bodys chief Bogdan Chiritoiu confirmed for Mediafax that he discussed with representatives of both cable operators the impact of such a merger on the market. The talks were only exploratory and the antitrust body does not reject in principle the merger, said Chiritoiu at the time.
