Number of foreign tourist stays in Hungary rises 7.2% in H1 2012.

The number of foreign tourists staying at Hungary's public accommodation establishments increased by 7.2% y/y to 1.733mn in January to June 2012, the statistics office informed. Overnight stays by foreigners increased by 7.8% y/y to 4.664mn in the period. The number of domestic tourist visits declined by 2.5% y/y and overnights were down by 1.6% y/y. The gross revenue of Hungarian accommodation facilities increased by 5.7% y/y to HUF 111.7bn (EUR 422.5mn) in H1 2012. In terms of individual segments, the hotel sector accounted for HUF 106.7bn of the total revenue, up 7.2% on the year. The average room occupancy in hotels increased to 42.8% in January to June 2012, slightly up from 42.6% in H1 2011.
