Newly elected president wants Croatia in EU in 2012.

Newly elected president Ivo Josipovic said that he would like to see the country as a member of the EU in 2012. He stressed that his priority in the presidential term would be the fight against corruption at the highest level as it threatens the countrys security. Josipovic said that as president he would cooperate with PM Jadranka Kosor by adding that the forces had to be directed to overcoming the current economic crisis, fighting against corruption and organised crime and improving the relations with the neighbouring countries. Josipovic of the main opposition Social Democratic Party (SDP) won the second round of the presidential elections held on Jan 10 with 60.26% of all votes, the final results released by the State Electoral Commission (DIP) showed. The independent candidate, Milan Bandic, was backed by 39.74%.
