Mobile phone penetration in Montenegro rises to 181% at end-August.

Mobile phone penetration in Montenegro increased to 181.06% at the end of August from 175.56% a month earlier, the latest figures of the telecommunications agency showed. The total number of subscribers was 1,122,610 in August, up from 1,088,520 in the previous month. At the end of August 2011, mobile users in Montenegro numbered 1,272,365, which was equal to a 205.2% penetration rate. The leading operator in the country - Telenor (former ProMonte, owned by the Norway's Telenor) recorded an 11% annual drop in its clients to 444,169 at end-August. It retained a leading position on the market in August with a 39.6% share, up by 0.4pps y/y. The subscribers of its main rival, T-Mobile (part of Crnogorski Telekom, which also has fixed-line operations), dropped by 13.6% y/y to 380,340 in the eighth month of the current year. Its market share dropped marginally to 33.9% from 34.6% in August 2011. The newest player on the market, M:Tel, also posted drop in its client base - 10.5% y/y to 298,101, as its market share reached 26.6% in August, up from 26.2% in August 2011.
