Mobile phone penetration in Montenegro reached 198.2% in October.

Mobile phone penetration in Montenegro stood at 198.2% in October, the latest figures of the telecommunications agency reveal. The regulator has changed the methodology for calculating the penetration rate, which is why comparison with previous year data is not relevant. The total number of subscribers reached 1,228,841, down by 5.2% y/y, which translated into an annual drop of 10.8pps in the penetration rate. In monthly terms the number of subscribers decreased by 3.6%. The leading operator Telenor (former ProMonte, owned by the Norwegian Telenor) recorded an 8.5% y/y drop in its clients to 478,342 and slightly decreased its market share to 38.7% from 40.1% a year earlier. The subscribers of its main rival, T-Mobile (subsidiary of the fixed-line Crnogorski Telekom), dropped for a second month in a roll to 430.572, down 6.1% y/y. Its market share stayed flat on the month at 35% but decreased from 35.4% in October 2010. Only the newest player on the market, M:TEL, posted growth in its client base - 1.6% y/y, reversing the 1.4% y/y drop in September. Its market share climbed to 26.3% (down from 24.5% a year earlier). The Serbian-Bosnian telecom had 322.927subscribers at the end of October.
