Mobile phone penetration in Montenegro dropped to 163.7% in Feb, the latest figures of the telecommunications agency show. The total number of subscribers was 1,014,747 in Feb, down by 11.6% y/y, which translated into an annual drop of 21.4pps in the penetration rate. In monthly terms the number of subscribers increased by 1.3%. The leading operator Telenor (former ProMonte, owned by the Norwegian Telenor) recorded an 11.1% y/y drop in its clients to 408,763. It retained a leading position on the market in Feb with a 40.3% share. The subscribers of its main rival, T-Mobile (subsidiary of the fixed-line Crnogorski Telekom), dropped by 13.9% on the year to 354.149. Its market share narrowed marginally to 34.9% from 35.9% in Feb 2011. The newest player on the market, M:TEL, also posted drop in its client base - 13.9% y/y and its market share reached 24.8% in Feb 2012, up from 24.1% in Feb 2011. |
