Branko Crvenkovski, leader of the biggest opposition party SDSM will meet PM Nikola Gruevski, who is also leader of the ruling party VMRO-DPMNE, to discuss the forthcoming elections and to find a solution for the opposition partys participation in the vote, a release on the website of SDSM informs. We remind that the political crisis in the country aggravated sharply on Dec 24, when the opposition was ejected from the parliament after brawling in an attempt to prevent debate of the 2013 budget bill. After the incident, Crvenkovski announced that they are leaving the parliament and are starting a campaign of civil disobedience. Earlier in January, SDSM demanded holding both local and early parliamentary elections in the spring. However, the demand was rejected by VMRO-DPMNE and parliament speaker Trajko Veljanovski scheduled the local elections for March 24. SDSM said that it will boycott the local elections unless early general elections are scheduled as well. Utrinski vesnik daily quoted sources from SDSM as saying that the leader of the opposition party will reiterate the demand for holding simultaneously early parliamentary elections and local elections. |
