Macedonian Public Enterprise for Rail Infrastructure (PERI) and German Consortium Wiebe & Alpine have signed an agreement on renewal of tracks along two sections of transport Corridor X, state news agency MIA reported. The sections are Tabanovce-Karpos-Kumanovo and Miravci-Smokvica. They have a combined length of 25 km. The cost of the project is EUR 7mn. The funding comes from a EUR 17.6mn sovereign loan extended by the EBRD, which also covers track renewal of the 30 km Negotino-Nogaevci section, which will complete renewal works along Corridor X. The works will involve the replacement of wooden with concrete sleepers and the supply of new rails where applicable. Corridor X is the main north-south route in Macedonia. It provides a connection to Serbia and Europe in the north, and to Greece in the south. |
