Macedonian bourse turnover plunges m/m in September

The turnover of the Macedonian Stock Exchange (MSE) plunged by 34.1% m/m to MKD304.5mn (€4.9mn) in September, after rising by 15.2% m/m a month earlier, the MSE data indicated.

The turnover took a negative turn as the value of block transactions fell sharply in September. In 2016, the turnover of the MSE jumped by 13.6% y/y to around €48.7mn.

In the ninth month of the year, regular trading turnover on the MSE rose by 10.4% m/m to MKD261.6mn, while block transactions plunged by 80.9% m/m to only MKD42.9mn.

The number of transactions on the bourse increased 6.8% m/m to 1,557 in September.

The market capitalisation of the shares traded on the MSE was MKD138.6bn, down 0.3% m/m. The market capitalisation of listed debt securities edged down 0.6% m/m to MKD3.47bn.

The blue chip equity index, MBI10, increased by 1.5% m/m, reaching a value of 2,688.66 points at end-September.

There were 107 listed companies on the MSE at end-September, the same number as a month earlier.

The most traded company on the official market was Komercijalna Banka, with a total turnover of MKD60.2mn in September. The average price of the bank’s shares was MKD2,895.49.

The Macedonian bourse is part of the regional platform SEE Link, which became fully operational at end-March 2016, linking it with the Bulgarian, Croatian, Slovenian and Serbian stock exchanges.

The founding members of the platform were the bourses in Skopje, Zagreb and Sofia.

In August 2017, the Banja Luka Stock Exchange, in Bosnia’s Republika Srpska, joined the platform, while in September the Sarajevo bourse in Bosnia's Federation became a SEE Link member. The Athens bourse is also preparing to become part of the SEE Link in near future.
