Macedonia gets fifteen bids for building EUR 271mn Corridor X motorway section.

Macedonia has received fifteen offers in a tender for the construction of a EUR 271mn motorway section on the Pan-European Corridor X, daily Vecer reported. The Demir Kapija-Smokvica section has a total length of 28.2 km. The project will be funded via a EUR 130mn loan from the EIB, a EUR 107mn sovereign loan from the EBRD, an EU IPA grant of EUR 45mn and EUR 6mn provided by the Macedonian government. Some EUR 90mn of the EBRD loan will be allocated for the motorway construction, while the remainder will be used for modernisation of the toll collection system and the toll plazas along the section. Candidates who have submitted bids include companies and consortia from Italy, Greece, Austria, Spain, Turkey, Germany and China. Macedonia is expected to award a contract for the construction works in the first quarter of 2012. The construction is projected to last four years. Corridor X runs from Austria to Greece via Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia and Macedonia.
