Macedonia awards contract for design documentation of railway Corridor X.

Macedonia's finance ministry has awarded a contract for the preparation of project studies and design documentation on the railway sections along the Corridor X including the Xd branch, Tenders Electronic Daily reported. The contract was awarded to a consortium led by Austrian firm ILF Beratende Ingenieure ZT GmbH. The consortium also includes two other firms: Eurotransproject Ltd. - Transport Infrastructure Design (Bulgaria) and ADT Omega SA Consulting Engineers (Greece). The project studies to be prepared include feasibility studies, cost-benefit analyses and environmental impact assessment studies. The contract is worth EUR 1.46mn. The maximum budget was EUR 1.7mn. There were seven competitors for the project. The project aims to improve railway links along the international Corridor X, to boost the capacity of the railway Corridor X for better cohesion with the EU Member States and neighbouring countries and to promote sustainable development of railway infrastructure along Corridor X including branch Xd.
