LV: airBaltic passenger turnover up by 6% y/y in Jan-Sep.

According to the announcement made by company representatives, airBaltic airline transported a total of 2.66mn passengers in Jan-Sep, which made a 6% y/y increase. In September alone, passenger turnover went up by rather weak 2% y/y to 0.36mn. To remind, before Q1/11 airBaltic saw six months in a row of rather low passenger turnover, which was attributed to unfavourable weather conditions (in Q1/11 passenger turnover declined by 4% y/y). In Jan-Sep carrier operated 43,924 flights. To remind, airBaltic airline transported a total of 3.25mn passengers in 2010, which made a 16% y/y increase. Last year carrier operated 56,098 flights, up by 22% y/y. As reported, Bertold Flik, CEO and co-owner of the national air carrier airBaltic (Baltijas Aviacijas Sistemas controlled by companys CEO Bertold Flik and holding 47.2% of companys shares, the rest being held by the state) this month resigned from his post in the company. Flik was working as airBaltics CEO since 2002. Fliks resignation was one of the conditions of government-approved austerity package for airBaltic.
