LT: Energy consumption in Lithuania up by 3.3% y/y in 2011.

Total Lithuanian energy consumption in 2011 amounted to 7,290 tons of oil equivalent, which indicates 3.3% y/y increase, Statistics Lithuania indicates. Natural gas accounted for 37.3% of total consumption, oil products accounted for 33.5% in 2011. In 2011 total imports of natural gas increased by 9.7% y/y, coal imports grew by 23.6% y/y, electricity imports grew by 23.8% y/y. In 2011 electricity production from wind energy increased by a factor of 2.1 y/y, and accounted for 9.9% of total electricity production in Lithuania. In 2011 total electricity production from renewable sources accounted for 23.1% of total electricity production. Total energy consumption declined by 1.5% y/y in 2011, with transport accounting for 32.7% of total energy consumption, and households account for 32.5% of total energy consumption. Industry accounts for 19.2% of total energy consumption.
