Lithuanian industrial production extends erratic performance
By bne IntelliNews June 21, 2016

Lithuanian industrial production fell an adjusted 0.2% y/y in May, according to data from Statistics Lithuania released on June 21.

The contraction was slower than April’s fall of 1.2%, but May proved a second consecutive month in which output fell. The result is in line with the sector’s patchy performance in the last 12 months, when output suffered declines in six, but also showed several sudden spurts.

In monthly terms, industrial production grew an adjusted 3.8% in May. On an unadjusted basis, annual production grew 2.6% in the fifth month of the year, while unadjusted monthly output pushed to 8.5%. Output totalled €1.4bn in nominal terms, slightly more than the €1.4bn in April.

Like the headline figure over the past 18 months or so, the major sectors have performed erratically. Manufacturing output fell an adjusted 0.3% y/y in May, while mining and quarrying decreased 5.2%. The electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning sector saw production expand 1.1% and output in the water and waste management segment grew 3.3%.
