South Koreas car maker Kia Motors is confident that its Slovak plant will meet its 2012 output target, Hospodarske Noviny reported, quoting the companys spokesman Dusan Dvorak. Production for the first eight months is going according to the plan and the target of a record high output of 285,000 cars for 2012 remains on track, Dvorak said. In August, Kia launched the production of the new compact ceed Sportswagon at its plant in Zilina, northern Slovakia, and expects plenty of orders for the new model. Kia Slovakia produced 167,000 vehicles and 266,000 engines in the first seven months of 2012, up 11% y/y and 52% y/y, respectively. The news comes a day after reports showed that Volkswagen, the biggest car maker in Slovakia, is suffering from reduced demand from China and will thus end the nonstop production at its Bratislava plant. Kias biggest markets are Germany, Russia and England, according to Dvorak. Auto manufacturing is crucial for Slovakia, as it is the main engine for the countrys export-driven economy.
