By bne IntelliNews November 21, 2012
The Ministry of Education and Science will take further efforts to prevent religious extremism among young people, minister Baktyzhan Zhumagulov has stated. At the same time, he informed that the agency and the National Security Committee reguraly hold meetings with the heads of educational institutions on the issue. Significantly, the statement from the minister came just days after Kazakh president Nursultan Nazarbayev urged young people not to wear Arabic clothes (including hijabs). A day earlier, interior minister Kalmukhanbet Kasymov spoke about the measures to improve internal troops performance. The statements indicate that the fight with terrorism and extremism is becoming a top priority of the authorities and will be in the main focus of most of the Kazakh ministries.
