Kazakhstan to harvest 16mn tones of grain this year.

Kazakhstan expects to harvest maximum 16mn tones of grain this year, agriculture minister Asylzhan Mamytbekov has said. He noted that temperatures are favourable as well as general weather conditions thus there is a hope for a normal, good crop. To remind you, last year Kazakhstan harvested 12.2mn toes of grain in clean weight due to adverse weather conditions. This was a sharp reduction from 20.8mn tones in 2009. In 2010/11 marketing year, Kazakhstan exported 5.9mn tones, down from 8.4mn tones in a year earlier. Kazakhstan is among top 10 world's wheat exporters. It exports mainly to the neighbouring countries as well as Azerbaijan and to the Mediterranean area.
