Kazakhstan starts construction of deep processing plant in Atyrau.

Kazakhstan officially launched construction of deep processing plant in Atyrau, national oil and gas holding KazMunayGas has informed. The project is being realized by national welfare fund SamrukKazyna, KazMunayGas, KazMunayGas - Processing and Marketing, Atyrau Refinery and OmskNefteHimProyekt from Russia. The relevant agreement was signed in December last year. Total cost of the project is USD 1.679bn. The construction works will be carried on by Sinopec Engineering (China), Marubeni Corporation (Japan) and KazStroyService (Kazakhstan). The project will be implemented within 41 months. The new facility will process 2.4mn tonnes of oil and vacuum gas oil per year. The new facility will allow increased production of high-octane gasoline, aviation and diesel fuel. After completion of the project, the refinery will process 5.5mn tonnes of oil a year and will annually produce 1.745mn tonnes of gasoline, 1.64mn tonnes of diesel fuel, 244,000 tonnes of jet fuel and the production of fuel oil will be reduced to 193,000 tonnes. All motor fuel will meet the Euro 5 standard. Atyrau refinery is fully controlled by the state. Construction of the new facility is in line with the state program of modernization of refining sector in the country.
