Kazakhstan is reinforcing its southern border. According to Turganbek Stambekov, head of Ontustik regional department of the Kazakh National Security Committee's Border Service, the areas bordering with Kyrgyzstan are being especially strengthened. He added that there is no tranquillity between Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan as the works were started last year. It is planned that 306 km will be strengthened this year. Stambekov informed that 5 teams of engineers are building structures. Fences, alarm systems and a control strip, and 6 sets of radio barriers cover 198 km of highland border areas. To remind you, Kyrgyz president Kurmanbek Bakiyev was overthrown in early April after violent riots. Since then the situation in Kyrgyzstan remains unstable.
