Kazakhstan plans to take control over associated gas. Kazakh president Nursultan Nazarbayev ordered the government to study Azerbaijan s experience in associated gas revenues. According to the president, the associated gas does not have to belong to an oil producing company if this is not mentioned in the contract. Moreover, according to Nazarbayev, the associated gas is worth noting as owner does not spend money to produce it. The president also ordered the government to consider this issue while concluding new contracts. To remind you, under 1994 contract, Azerbaijan receives free of charge gas produced at Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli field.
