Kazakhstan lowers grain exports forecast.

By bne IntelliNews November 9, 2012
Kazakhstan lowered grain exports forecast by 1mn tonnes to 7mn tonnes, agriculture minister Asylzhan Mamytbekov has said. Black Sea markets will be affected by the move as Kazakhstan prioritizes its Central Asian countries due to geographical proximity but also because of political reasons as fears of instability in the region. Kazakhstan also exports grain to the Azerbaijan and Iran across the Caspian Sea. The country is among top 10 grain exporters in the world. Last year, it exported 12.1mn tonnes of grain. This year harvest was affected by drought thus Kazakhstan is expected to gather 13mn tonnes of grain in clean weight, half of last year's 27mn tonnes.
