Kazakhstan harvests 12.86mn tonnes of grain and grain legumes in 2012.

Kazakhstan harvested 12.86mn tonnes of grain and grain legumes in 2012, according to the final data from the State Stat Agency. This means a drop of 47% y/y in comparison to a record grain harvest in 2011. Wheat accounted for 76.5% of total harvest last year. Kazakhstan also gathered 3.126mn tonnes of potatoes (growth of 1.6% y/y), 3.062mn tonnes of vegetables (growth of 6.4% y/y), 1.65mn tonnes of melons and watermelons (growth of 32.2% y/y) and 379,700 tonnes of cotton (growth of 13% y/y). Among regions, most of the grain was harvested in North Kazakhstan (34.1%), Akmola (21.9%) and Kostanay (19%) regions. On the other hand, most of potatoes and vegetable were gathered in Almaty region.
