By bne IntelliNews November 8, 2010
Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan discussed the work done on the Kazakh Caspian Transportation System project at the 7th meeting of the Kazakh-Azeri intergovernmental commission for economic cooperation. The parties noted that the work goes without hindrances and unexpected developments. However, a number of problems remained unresolved. Kazakh oil and gas minister Sauat Mynbayev confirmed that the parties had not agreed on proportion of oil to be sent to Kulevi or Batumi oil terminals located in Georgia. To remind you, Azeri SOCAR controls Kulevi oil terminal while KazMunayGas owns Batumi. The 2 facilities are strongly competing for oil and oil products being transported by the railway via the Caucasus. KCTS assumes development of infrastructure in Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan to allow for transportation of 25-56mn tones of oil per annum.
