Italians lead the tourist charge to Slovenia

Foreign tourists generated 68% of the overnight stays in Slovenia in April, with the largest numbers coming from neighbouring Italy. according to the latest data from the statistics office published on June 8. 

The statistical office said that more than 386,000 tourist arrivals and more than 924,000 overnight stays were recorded in Slovenia in April. Foreign tourists generated almost 274,000 arrivals and almost 633,000 overnight stays. This included 108,000 Italians who visited Slovenia in the fourth month of the year.

The figures indicated growth compared to the same month of 2017 when more than 348,000 tourist arrivals and more than 810,000 overnight stays were registered in Slovenia. In April 2017, both parameters also increased — tourist arrivals went up 28% and their overnight stays rose 27% against April 2016.

In April this year, key markets whose nationals generated the most overnight stays in Slovenia were Italy (17%), Austria (13%), Germany (9%), Serbia (5%), Croatia (5%) and Hungary (4%), the statistical office reported.

Tourists — including domestic tourists — spent more than 548,000 nights or 59% of all overnight stays in hotels, 11% in apartments and holiday villages, 8% in campsites, 4% in youth hostels and 4% in private accommodations – rented rooms, dwellings.

The highest number of all tourist overnight stays in April (26% or almost 245,000) was recorded in health (spa) resorts, followed by seaside resorts (21%), mountain resorts (19%) and the capital Ljubljana (16%).

In April, domestic tourists generated more than 112,000 arrivals and almost 292,000 overnight stays in Slovenia.
