IranAir abandons plan to take early delivery of Boeing 777-300

IranAir has given up on plans to take early delivery of a Boeing 777-300 jetliner because the passenger plane is no longer available, Iranian news agencies reported the head of the national flag carrier as saying on April 28.

A Boeing 777-300 no longer wanted by Turkish Airlines because of weaker passenger traffic and other difficulties was supposed to be available, meaning Iran would no longer have to wait until around a year from now to obtain the first of 80 aircraft it has ordered from the American planemaker. But IranAir chairman Farhad Parvaresh told Iran's Press TV: "We have currently stopped our negotiations in absence of the plane."

Boeing reportedly responded that it would not comment on specific deliveries.

A spokesman was also quoted as saying: "We continue to follow the lead of the US government on all our dealings with approved Iranian airlines."

Western banks are proving wary of financing deals between IranAir and Western companies because of American banking sanctions that remain in place - despite the lifting of many multilateral sanctions against Iran following the November 2015 nuclear deal - or a further decline in relations between the Iranians and President Donald Trump.

IranAir has also ordered 100 aircraft from Europe's Airbus. It has so far taken three deliveries.
