Hungarys home sales rise 20% y/y in Jan-Aug 2012.

The number of home sales in Hungary grew by 20% y/y to 67,938 in January to August 2012, according to data from real estate agency Duna House. Home sales reached a three-year high in January 2012, as Hungarians rushed to join a government scheme allowing them to repay early foreign exchange mortgages at exchange rates far below market rates. In August alone, home sales were down 8% on the year at 7,379. Duna House expects home sales to climb to some 110,000 this year, which would be the highest since 2008. The number of home sales in Hungary edged down by 2.9% y/y to 87,700 in full-2011.
