Hungary will launch a tender for expansion of its sole nuclear power plant Paks in early 2012, Hungary AM reported, quoting development minister Tamas Fellegi. Bids will be evaluated in H1 2013. The project is scheduled for completion by 2020-2030, an extension from the current deadline of 2020-2025 on the need for a more thorough preparation. Paks, fully-owned by state electricity wholesaler MVM, supplies about 40% of Hungary's electricity. The plant runs four Russian VVER-type reactors with a combined capacity of about 2,000MW, whose life span the company is currently trying to extend by the 2030's. |
