Hungary's number of employees down 0.5% y/y in October 2012.

The number of employees in Hungary's public and private sectors fell for the seventh straight month in October 2012 edging down by 0.5% y/y to 2.697mn, the statistics office informed. The decline resulted from a 2.2% y/y drop in the business sector, which employed 1.821mn people. Employment in the private sector has been declining since December 2011 after rising in the previous 19 months. By contrast, employment in the public sector rose by 3.9% y/y to 767,000 in October. Non-profit organisations registered an annual rise of 0.1% y/y in October but their share of the labour market is negligible, as they employed only 109,200 individuals. The number of full-time employees in the local economy edged up by 0.1% y/y to 2.389mn in October. The number of part-time employees declined by 4.8% on the year to 308,200.
