Hungary's digital TV subscriptions up 1.1% m/m to 1.7mn in March 2012.

Hungarys digital TV market continued to expand in March 2012 as the number of subscriptions increased by 1.1% m/m to 1.7mn, the communications watchdog informed. The statistics include data from the country's 12 biggest digital TV providers that account for around 88% of the market. Digital TV users accounted for more than half of the overall domestic TV market, as their share is estimated at 52.9% at the end of the month, climbing by 0.4pps from February. The improvement in March was again on the back of a growth in the number of digital subscribers with cable or IPTV connections - up by 13,354 to 725,548. Subscribers in the wireless connections category also increased by 2,890 to 923,968 as of end-March. Regarding the market share distribution, the share of market leader UPC dropped only marginally to 25.8%. DIGI and T-Home, which ranked second and third, managed to keep their shares unchanged at 23% and 22.7%, respectively.
