Govt seeks delay of antitrust rules violation procedure against Bulgaria.

Bulgaria will be seeking an extension of the court procedure filed by the EC against the country over irregularities found in the assignment of digital broadcast spectrum, transport minister Kristian Krystev said, as quoted by Dnevnik daily. The new transport minister has requested extra time to get acquainted with the matter. In January, the EC referred Bulgaria to court as it found that the two contest procedures for assigning five spectrum lots in 2009 limited without justification the number of companies that could potentially enter the market due to disproportionate selection criteria. Therefore, the EC concluded that the procedure followed by Bulgaria led to the exclusion of potential candidates, which hampers competition in the future Bulgarian digital terrestrial television (DTT) infrastructure market.
