German vice chancellor: Croatia enters final phase of its EU accession.

By bne IntelliNews August 26, 2010
The German vice chancellor and minister on foreign affairs, Guido Westerwelle, said Croatia has entered the final stage of its EU accession. He stressed that the mobilisation of all forces will help complete the negotiations in 2011. Westerwelle recalled that Germany supported Croatia on its road to the EU membership from the very beginning. We note that at end-July Croatia closed another two policy chapters during the negotiations for EU membership. The two chapters are food safety, veterinary and phytosanitary policy, and financial control. Thus, the country has so far closed 22 out of the 33 policy chapters in the negotiations process. EU chief negotiator Vladimir Drobnjak said that the country is focused on meeting the criteria for closing the two most difficult chapters, namely judiciary and fundamental rights, and competition policy.
