Gas pipeline from Turkmenistan via Kazakhstan to Russia to be delayed.

Gas pipeline from Turkmenistan via Kazakhstan to Russia is likely to be delayed, Kairgeldy Kabyldin, the head of national oil and gas holding KazMunayGas has stated. He explained that the a decline in gas demand was likely to affect the project after a reporter asked whether the project had been shelved. At the same time, Kabyldin informed that the works on the project were under way and the countries involved in the project were continuing to prepare front-end engineering design studies for their sections of the route. To remind you, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan and Russia agreed to construct the pipeline along the Caspian Sea and to upgrade the existing Central Asia - Centre trunk pipeline in May 2007. The project would allow to expand the system by 10-30bn m3 of gas per annum. However, after drop in gas demand in Europe, Russian gas major Gazprom lost interest in raising gas imports from Central Asia.
