Fourth “Davos of Iran” announced for Zurich

By bne IntelliNews August 9, 2017

Zurich is once more to play host to the Europe-Iran Forum, sometimes referred to as the “Davos of Iran”. The fourth edition of the event will take place over October 3-4 at a secluded hotel on the outskirts of the city, the Financial Tribune reported on August 9.

The annual forum is the biggest conference on investing in Iran. This year’s event will certainly address the divergence between European and American policies on Iran when it comes to the 2015 nuclear deal that, in return for a drastic scaling down of Tehran’s nuclear programme, has curbed sanctions and opened the Islamic Republic up to foreign investors. While Donald Trump seems intent on finding a way to withdraw the US from the nuclear deal, European investors - including major players such as Total, Volkwagen and Renault - along with investors from countries including China, Russia, Japan, South Korea and South Africa have been pouring into Iran.

Speakers are to include Iranian Deputy Economy Minister Mohammad Khazaei, who also serves as president of the Organisation for Investment and Economic and Technical Assistance for Iran, and Deputy Industry Minister Mehdi Karbasian, also the chairman of the Iranian Mines & Mining Industries Development & Renovation Organisation.

Other attendees will include Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Sajjadpour; Farzaneh Sharafbafi, the CEO of Iran Air; Mohammad Saeedi, managing director of Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines; and Masoud Khansari, president of the Tehran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines, and Agriculture.

Senior diplomats booked to address a forum audience include UK ambassador to Tehran Nicholas Hopton.
