Experts forecasts Ukraine to become more active in CIS.

Viktor Chumak, the director of the program for political analysis and security at the International Centre for Strategic Studies, said that the reinvigoration of Ukraine's relations with Russia could result in Ukraine becoming more active within the CIS. According to Chumak, Ukraine is not a fully fledged member of the CIS and has an observer status in all the committees of the CIS in the operations of which it participates because it has not ratified the statutes of the CIS. Hryhorii Perepelytsia, the director of the Institute of Foreign Policy at the Foreign Affairs Ministry's Academy of Diplomacy, said Ukraine's practice of avoiding full participation in the operations of the CIS in recent years could change. He forecasts that President Viktor Yanukovych would use the CIS as an instrument for returning Ukraine to Russia's sphere of influence. Perepelytsia also forecast that increased involvement of the CIS in Russia's integration processes.
