European Parliament to send observers to monitor local elections in Ukraine.

The European Parliament plans to send its observers to monitor local elections in Ukraine, director of the information policy department of the Ukrainian Foreign Affairs Ministry Oleh Voloshyn has reported. According to him, the European Parliament's mission will include two observers and their five assistants. Earlier, the Party of Regions asked the European Parliament to submit to the Central Electoral Commission candidacies for observers to the local elections in Ukraine in time. According to surveys, the Party of Regions is expected to win in local elections to be held on Oct 31. The second place may be taken by the political force of Deputy PM Serhiy Tihipko, Strong Ukraine or by opposition party BYuT-Batkivshchyna. Such forecast was made by the political scientist, Director of the Kyiv Center for Political and Conflict Studies Mykhailo Pohrebinsky. He added that Serhiy Tihipko was non-confrontational and, according to previous research, has high ratings in the country. Experts also forecast that the turnout in the current local elections will be smaller than at the presidential elections, slightly more than 50%.
