A European Commission senior official said that Croatia was getting closer to opening competition policy chapter. He added that the issue will be soon in the agenda of the European Commission, which after that will send its proposal to the Council of the EU. The EC had received the additional information from the country and now was in the stage of preparation of benchmarks. The additional information, which had been requested, concerned an appraisal of maritime domain, which included shipyards for which the government had announced privatisation tenders. The country was expected to open negotiations on judiciary and fundamental rights, which had been blocked by several EU member states over ICTY Chief Prosecutor Serge Brammertz's criticism, concerning the cooperation of Croatia with the tribunal, which was considered as insufficient.
