EC asks Bulgaria to improve road network safety.

By bne IntelliNews May 20, 2011
The EC has asked Bulgaria and 10 other EU member states to improve the trans-European road network safety in line with their obligations under the EU law, the EC informed on its website. The said countries have not fully transported the line EU directive into the national legislation within the set deadline (December 19, 2010). The procedures for improving the road network comprise road safety impact assessments, road safety audits and safety rankings of the network. The request should be considered as a reasoned opinion under the EU infringement procedures. The countries should respond in two months otherwise the EC may refer the cases to the EU Court of Justice.
