Czech car sales rise 17% in Aug 2011.

Sales of new passenger cars in the Czech Republic rose by 17% y/y to 14,105 units in August 2011, faster than the 6.4% growth a month earlier, data from the Car Importers Association showed. Skoda kept its leading position with sales of 4,181 cars, up 32.8% y/y. Second ranked Volkswagen selling 1,231 cars, up 53.9% y/y, followed by Ford with 1,183 sold cars, up 5.7%. Sales of light commercial vehicles reached 1,196 units in August, compared to 848 sold in the same month last year. A total 114,507 new passenger cars were sold in the country in the first eight months of 2011, a 1.7% increase from a year earlier. Skoda Octavia was the top-selling model with 15,443 sold cars, ahead of Fabia with 10,456 cars and Ford Focus with 3,579 cars. Sales of light commercial vehicles in the eight-month period advanced 8% to 8,032 units. The top-selling light utility cars were Ford Transit, Citroen Berlingo and Peugeot Boxer. Truck sales in the first eight months of 2011 grew by 62% y/y to 4,893 and sales of buses jumped 15% y/y to 436 units.
